The wedding invitation designs on this site are original artwork designed and owned by Mela. The purchase of these designs for use is on a licensed basis only. This is a limited license, that will become effective at such time as Mela receives payment in full of the applicable license fees as set forth below and shall thereafter give the licensee the exclusive right to reproduce the licensed design on wedding invitations to be used solely at licensee’s wedding. The license shall remain in force for 45 days from its effective date at which time it shall expire without further action of the parties. Following expiration of the license, Mela reserves the right to license the use of the design to other licensees upon such terms as Mela and the future licensee may determine.

During the period that this license is in force for custom artwork, Mela reserves the right to license similar, but not identical designs to others. Custom artwork shall not be available as stock artwork on the site until after a period of 6 months. During this period, custom designs may still be posted on the site as examples for display purposes only. Stock designs from the site are available for licensing at all times. All invitations are to include Mela's web address and copyright information on the back.

Further terms are as follows:

Mela provides the artwork to you or the print house you choose under license solely for one time use for the printing of your wedding invitations.

Due to the nature of Mela's business, upon purchase of a design, the licensee may then make their own arrangements concerning printing the invitations. Mela shall correspond with the selected print house via e-mail concerning printing specifications and file transfer. Mela uses industry standard design applications for the graphics, so such communication should only regard actual printing issues and not design composition. In the case of custom designed artwork, proofs of design composition shall be included in the design cost. Proofs of print jobs shall be obtained by said customer if desired and are not the responsibility of Mela.

Tips on finding a printer:

One of the best ways to find a printer for custom wedding invitations is to look on-line. There are vast numbers of web sites set up solely for printing wedding invitations. These companies are so configured as to keep the cost of printing invitations down.

Many towns have their own print shops, but most of these are either priced so that a small print run such as that for invitations is prohibitively expensive for those on a tight budget. These print shops usually end up shipping their artwork out to an invitation printing company. Even so, do call around your local area and ask the print shops what their policies are for wedding invitations with original artwork provided in standard professional file formats.

About Mela's artwork: Just as Mela's artwork is for "alternative" wedding invitations, it is also perfect for papers and inks not usually found in invitation catalogs. This type of print job would be handled best in house by your local printer.

Lastly, a lot of you are planning on producing your own invitations. There are many paper resources available at most office supply store which are great for use with your desktop printer. Once again, if you want to get a little unusual, have a ball choosing colorful papers, out of the ordinary for wedding standards.
